Description
The first images of angels have come down to us since Roman times, but the sculptural tradition took root in the Middle Ages thanks to Catholicism, which allows the image of Christian shrines in the form of sculptures. Therefore, during inhumation, it became customary to depict angels on the graves in the form of sculptural statues or monuments. In perception, the angel reflects not only the idea of accompanying the soul of the deceased to another world, but also angels are called to guard the graves and pray for the soul of the deceased (YanKue). In this composition, the angel is depicted in full growth, leaning on a cross.
